Running and Reading

summerreading

I distinctively remember watching the Kids Choice Awards back in the day and hearing Will Smith say these words:

“The keys to life are running and reading. When you're running, there's a little person that talks to you and says, "Oh I'm tired. My lung's about to pop. I'm so hurt. There's no way I can possibly continue." You want to quit. If you learn how to defeat that person when you're running. You learn will how to not quit when things get hard in your life. For reading: there have been gazillions of people that have lived before all of us. There's no new problem you could have--with your parents, with school, with a bully. There's no new problem that someone hasn't already had and written about it in a book.”

So this summer, in keeping with my desire to self educate, I have a heap of books I'm planning to read. Some are career related. Some are faith based. Some are old friends. I can't wait to feel like I'm learning again. I've also started running again. I did track way back when and actually quit very dramatically when I realized, after 5 years of running, that I hated it. Honestly, running still sucks. But I love endorphins and the feeling of improvement. We'll see where this takes me. What's on your to read list this summer? And do you have any tips for my running endeavors? They are much appreciated!

Share the love,

Taylor

  1. I don't have tips in regards to running because I'm still trying to convince myself to get up early enough to do so. It's something that I really want to do and I always prepare myself the night before, but when morning comes, it's a different story. LOL!

As for reading, I can never get enough. I'm quite proud of how my collection has grown, both in the physical and digital form. I plan to read more books about computer programming and databases as I get ready to finish up my Master's. But I also have a ton of other books that I plan to read and I've even joined a book club online.

Good luck with the self-education and running.
